Mini Schnauzer

I have a 17 year old mini Schnauzer who has been diagnosed with bone lesion and her right leg. I’m considering whether amputation or radiation would be a better option. What are your thoughts? PSĀ  She is in pretty good health otherwise eating drinking and pooping good, but pretty lethargic and has been for a couple of years. She does have some arthritis and a slight away back.

Thanks!

  2. Gosh I’m sorry I missed this post! Please jump into our Size and Age Matters Discussion Forum Topic so that we can help you better OK? You’ll find our community is ready to help. We can help you here too of course, but more people go to the Forums for questions like this.

Senior dogs are so special, and I know this is a tough situation when trying to decide. My suggestion is to get multiple opinions from vets before deciding, and when you are making that decision, know that only you know your dog best. Don’t let other people influence your decision because they are not you, and they don’t know Snickers like you do.

We have had many older Tripawds here do well, but I’ll be honest, few of that age bracket. That’s not to say that Snickers can’t do great too, but just that few vets see dogs in this age range who are healthy enough to be a Tripawd. I hope with all my heart that your pup is one of them! Please keep us posted OK?
